Even long before the tomato is dry and wrinkly the smooth skin of tomato and my inserted hair just do not seem to be exactly beautiful and wanted.

  1. - There is a certain contrast and contradiction in your work. Can it be between the living and the non-living?

    - Like what you say, I see a contradiction. but i can not say if it is the matter of life itself that is at stake here.

    - Then what was your intention?

    - Maybe it is irrelevant to talk about my intention. I can talk about my interpretation. I am not sure even if i remember what was my intention or if i want to remember.

    - Fair enough. So lets talk about interpretation. I was talking about living and non-living. Is that not true that the fresh tomato has something lively to it? If you consider it dead, at least you know that it can contribute to life. It can be eaten. whereas in the case of hair you see them as lost, they have nothing lively about them.

    - Well, yes. that observation is true. But fortunately that is not all i see in this work. first of all about the contradiction. I think the most important contradiction I see here is that this combination as odd as it is, seems to be fit. It is like it could have existed for eternity and yet you know that it could not have.

    - Very interesting point, but not very specific. Is it? This you could say about a ton of good artworks and god(!) there is a lot of them.

    - I am not in a position to call my work good. It is true that this is a general concept about good artworks but I do not see a problem in that. In fact your interpretation about the contradiction between life and death is also the same. The good old concept of tragedy than can apply to every piece of art.

    - You think so?... but let me ask you a question: This is your hair that is inserted into the tomato is it not? What is the consequence of that choice?

    - Yes you are right. it is mine. maybe I just want my hair to look pretty again and thus I am experimenting to that end. Or maybe that i am trying to preserve my hair. I could be the type of person that can not easily let go.

    - Indeed, it is fascinating how our hair changes its quality and meaning only by detaching from our body. Can this be a metaphor for a higher concept?

    - Not a particular one that I am aware of. I can understand that such interpretation can also exist. But that would be a different layer where I prefer not to approach.

    - And why is that?

    - That can be a long discussion, I would rather keep it for another occasion.

    - I understand. Lets go back to this object. There is certainly a time element in your work. I can imagine that you can not keep this work forever.

    - That is definitely a part of this work. maybe some people find looking at this work difficult now. But I assure you there wont be many people who would even get close to it after it is on display in a gallery for two weeks. I can not freeze time. If i could maybe I would have done it.

    - No you can not.... you talked about experimentation. Can this work be the start of a larger project? Do you have the intention to take it further? If yes how?

    - Certainly. I intend to take this work further. I have some ideas. But lets talk about them next time we meet.
